Introduction

1. Nazca Lines
( 2 days 1 nights ) NAZ02

Two thousand years ago, ancient Peruvians drew lines and vast animal figures in the flat desert floor, figures which they would never see themselves, as they are only fully comprehensible from the air.

2. Libertador Tambopata Lodge
( 3 days 2 nights ) TAM03

The Libertador Tambopata Lodge is situated on the banks of the Tambopata River in the heart of the Tambopata National Reserve (TNR), the remoteness and tranquility of our lodge makes for a richly rewarding visit to the rain forest. But, with a location of approximately only four hours from Cusco (half hour commercial flight, transfer to the port, and three hours by boat to the lodge) it is one of the most accessible rain forest destinations from Machu Picchu. There are daily commercial flights to/from Cusco, (30 min.), and to/from Lima (2 hrs.). This combination of National Reserve and proximity to Cusco, Machu Picchu and Lima assures a convenient and rewarding visit to excellent rain forest habitat without having to lose your holiday time travelling.

3. Arequipa And Colca
( 3 days 2 nights ) ARE03

There are numerous points of interest in the departamento outside of the province of Arequipa. The three coastal provinces, Caraveli, Camana and Islay all have popular beaches. Various ports can also be found along the coastline, the two most important being Mollendo and Matarani, both in the province of Islay.

4. Nazca Lines
( 3 days 2 nights ) NAZ03

Two thousand years ago, ancient Peruvians drew lines and vast animal figures in the flat desert floor, figures which they would never see themselves, as they are only fully comprehensible from the air.

5. Lake Titicaca
( 3 days 2 nights ) PUN03

The Sacred Lake

The Titicaca National Reserve was established in 1978 to protect a 36,180 hectare area and the dozens of species of native birds, fish and amphibians that live there.

The world’s largest tropical lake, Titicaca is enormous. It covers an area of 8000 square kilometres and is 170 kilometres long and 65 kilometres wide. Along its seemingly endless shores and on its many green islands, its Quechua and Aymara inhabitants fish its bountiful waters or farm the fertile soils in the manner of their ancestors – the builders of Chucuito, Sillustani, Tiahuanaco and countless other sites scattered now in ruins across the high plains.

While for geologists Titicaca is the result of plate tectonics, for the people of the Andes it is quite simply where the world began, the home of their creation legend and the cradle of the civilisation of the Incas.

6. Libertador Tambopata Lodge
( 4 days 3 nights ) TAM04

The Tambopata National Reserve (TNR), covers an area of 678,800 acres on the edge of the Bahuaja-Sonene National Park (BSNP, 2,696,919 acres). Together, the two parks form an immense area (3,000,000 acres) of sub-tropical rain under the protection of the Peruvian government. And with the establishment of the Madidi National Park in Bolivia, Tambopata is now part of a cross border park system which is the largest area of protected tropical forest on the South American continent.

The many studies made of the fauna and flora along the Tambopata River, reveal an incredible abundance of life forms. The ecosystems in this part of southeastern Peru are the most diverse on the planet, meaning that within the territory of the Libertador Tambopata Lodge there are limitless opportunities to observe the tropical rainforest and its wildlife.

7. Libertador Tambopata Lodge Macaw Lick Programme
( 4 days 3 nights ) TAM42

Our cabins have been designed to exist in complete harmony with this exotic environment. They are made from wood, thatched with woven leaves and are fully screened to protect their occupants from insects.

Mainly we use candles at night, creating a pleasant atmosphere at the lodge. Some buildings are provided with solar energy for lighting and we are in the process of introducing solar energy to all rooms.

Each bed is protected by a mosquito net and the cabins all have a private bathroom with running water.

Beverages and snacks are available 24 hours a day from the dining room and bar. The food served combines forest products with more traditional fare.

The lodge maintains 25 km of well markd forest trails, most of which are circular, beginning and ending at the lodge, and guests are welcome to explore them during their leisure time.

8. Libertador Tambopata Lodge Chuncho Parrot Lick Programme
( 4 days 3 nights ) TAM43

Transport is by boats protected from both sun and rain by a roof and side closures. Boat seats have back rests and seat cushions for greater comfort.

Stationed at the lodge are a number of experienced naturalist guides who are there to introduce you to the wonders of the rain forest and to answer your many questions during your walks and while travelling on the rivers and lakes. In the evenings we hold brief conferences focusing on aspects of the tropical rainforest.

The nearby Gallocunca stream is an excellent place to swim. A pathway down to the stream can be found towards the rear of the cabins clearing.

All programs include services from arrival to, until departure from, Puerto Maldonado: airport reception, transfer to the port, transport on rivers and lakes, three meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), guided walks as per itinerary, airport transfer, and departure assistance. Beverages of tea, coffee, or similar are included 24 hrs a day.
